Donald Trump has come under fire for a lot in his run for president thus far, but in the past couple months he’s come under a very heated fire from members of his own party.

In March, former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney came out with a prepared speech directed to the Republicans of America essentially begging them not to vote for Donald Trump. Romney attacked Trump in almost every way possible in his speech stating most importantly that he is not a true conservative. Perhaps Romney’s most powerful and most publicized moment of the speech was when he said the following: “Donald Trump is a phony, a fraud. His promises are as worthless as a degree from Trump University. He’s playing the members of the American public for suckers, he gets a free ride to the White House and all we get is a lousy hat.” Trump of course fired back at Romney by referring to him as a failed candidate on Twitter multiple times, but this doesn’t cloud the fact that many of the big names in conservatism are hitting Trump hard. Ben Shapiro, who is an author, speaker, and big name in the conservative community has also attacked Donald Trump on multiple occasions. In late February, The Daily Wire (at which Shapiro is Editor-in-Chief),  released a video on YouTube titled “Donald Trump Is A Liar.” In the video, Shapiro attacks Donald Trump on his false views that he gives to his three main supporters in the Republican Party: Evangelicals, Conservatives, and “we want a winner” voters. Shapiro also referred to Trump as a bully after the alleged incident when Trump’s campaign manager assaulted Shapiro’s fellow Breitbart reporter Michelle Fields. Shapiro resigned from Breitbart because he believes they failed to protect their reporter due to their allegiance to Donald Trump.

Many could argue that Romney’s speech was really just an attack on Trump from the Republican Establishment using Romney as a figurehead, and that’s probably correct. Even so, that’s still a whole group of conservatives attacking Trump through the use of Romney. However, if you aren’t convinced and believe it’s only the Republican Establishment attacking Trump because they can’t control him, then look on the outside at Shapiro. He is a staunch conservative outside of the Republican Establishment, has consistently attacked Trump, and has no political agenda that is threatened by Trump unlike the Republican Establishment. He is nothing short of a prime example of a individual conservative that just truly believes Trump is not a real conservative.

Donald Trump selected a tough crowd when he decided to run for president in the Republican Party. He’s been able to win over a lot of Tea Party voters, but still many conservatives remain hesitant to support The Donald and are very outspoken against him.
